Arrrrrrrrrrr

No not pirates. Americans. This is the real difference between the way the British speak English and the way the Americans do it. Oh I know there are different words - eggplant, trunk, sidewalk - and different pronunciations - tomayto - and of course they don't say their "t"s very clearly but the main thing is that they say their rrrrrrs. So hard is harrrrrrd, marsh is marrrrrrsh and so on. Apparently there is a name for this. They speak with a rhotic accent and we mostly (unless we come from the south west and a few other pockets) don't. Right now they are in the process of acquiring two new rhotic English speakers as my girls adapt their accent to suit their locale. So goodbye (sniff) to "by there" and hello to "it's rilly harrrrd".
