In London, when your guests came for a meal they brought wine. After all, you may only be 6 feet from a rat but you are also only 10 feet from an off licence in the great metropolis. Here in the country they do things differently, or at least our lovely guests on Sunday did. They arrived bearing flowers from the garden, a bottle of local apple juice, two freshly laid eggs, two freshly harvested paprika peppers and a perennial basil plant. Hopefully, if we get a return invitation it'll wait until the tomatoes or apples are ready because frankly I can't compete!
