I was so proud I took a picture of the cucumber and my daughter together.
Looks lovely. However it tasted very bitter. After stripping the skin off and then salting it, draining it, patting it dry, tasting it (bleah, again) I finally added vinegar and sugar and left it for a bit before draining and serving. It was all right. But not that good. I have looked around the net for information on why it was bitter, what I can do and whether the rest of the cucumbers the plant produces will also be bitter, but am rather more confused than I was when I started.

Cukes go bitter if they are fertilized by male plants - you have to sex them and get rid of the males, or choose an all-female seed. Hope that helps!
